Rock and Roller Cola Wars

This week NPR is shedding light on the tax/soda debate. You can read or listen to their discussion HERE. Yesterday they had to experts discuss the issue.

In one corner we have Gail Woodward-Lopez, associate director of the Center for Weight and Health at the University of California, Berkeley. She says that obesity rates have soared at the same time as soda consumption increased. She adds that soda should only be consumed in moderation, "definitely should not be part of your daily intake."

In the opposite corner we have Maureen Storey, senior vice president for science policy at the American Beverage Association and a former research professor at the University of Maryland. "Soda is comprised mostly of water," she says. "Water is the most important nutrient that we have." Me thinks Ms. Storey is a PR pro.

What do you think... is soda a real villain, or merely a small part of a huge problem?
