You Can Put Lipstick on a Pig...

And apparently we can also suppress the pig's hunger hormone! Scientists at Johns Hopkins have successfully suppressed levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin in pigs with a procedure called gastric artery chemical embolization or GACE. The scientists used, "a minimally invasive means of chemically vaporizing the main vessel carrying blood to the top section, or fundus, of the stomach. An estimated 90 percent of the body’s ghrelin originates in the fundus, which can’t make the hormone without a good blood supply." This procedure could prove to be a safer alternative to bariatric surgery. To read more about this research click HERE.
