The American Dietetic Association (ADA) keeps it simple:
RDs = Nutrition Experts (No really, that is their real description...)
So... RD, nutritionist, what is the big deal?
"Some RDs may call themselves “nutritionists,” but not all nutritionists are registered dietitians... virtually anyone can call him- or herself a “nutritionist” regardless of education or training. Individuals with the RD credential have fulfilled specific requirements"
Emphasis mine.

Remember way back in geometry class when your teacher told you that all rectangles are parallelograms, but not all parallelograms are rectangles??? Or all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares...
Same concept. (Am I the only nerd who actually enjoyed geometry?)
So if you are receiving nutrition information from a nutritionist, look for their credentials and make sure that they are an actual RD!
My next several posts will address how one becomes an RD. Don't worry they will be peppered with my sparkling sense of humor
Until then...
