Nutritional supplements are often provided to patients in a hospital setting, to prevent weight loss and malnutrition. Most people (not working in a medical setting) have heard of Ensure, fewer have heard of Juven and/or the new Ensure Muscle.
Both of these products contain HMB (a recent supplement darling, and a metabolite of leucine) which is clinically proven to promote healing. My research has centered on HMB, and so a more detailed post will be on the way.
Juven has fewer calories than an Ensure, and is only appropriate for patients who are consuming adequate calories.... Enter Ensure Muscle. Which fixes the calorie vs HMB dilemma. Unfortunately, Ensure Muscle is still rather spendy...
My solution:
Not sure how the cost will work out, but I think it sounds like a good idea!
Enjoy!
